Earth Mentorship Programs was founded on staff training seminars. Helping businesses provided powerful educational experiences in the outdoors is our passion. Here are some of the organization we have done custom staff training for:

Racoon tracks

- Outward Bound Canada

- Northern Edge Algonquin

- Kandalore Outdoor Education Centre

- Northern Tier High Adventure

- Fern Resort

The founder and lead mentor for EMP, Chris Gilmour has worked in outdoor education and wilderness guiding for the past 8 years. One of his consistent observations after working for several different wilderness guiding and outdoor education companies was that although many outdoor educators and guides today have great hard skills such as first aid, paddling, and rock climbing, many people lack a strong naturalist knowledge of the land that supports those activities. Some of the common “lost” skill sets include starting fires in wet weather or without the use of matches, ancient bush craft skills, the ability to read and interpret animal tracks and bird calls, the ability to navigate in the wilderness without modern tools, and the names, uses, and ecological significance of trees, plants, and native animals.

Wilderness Skills & Naturalist Knowledge Staff Training Weekend – May 28 – 30, 2010

This program is designed to give camp staff the skills, knowledge and experience to implement powerful nature based mentoring and programming at their camp, on canoe trip, or anywhere you find nature. The course acts as a model for participating staff, providing opportunities to experience highly effective tricks and techniques to deliver nature based education and mentoring. Curriculum includes wilderness living skills, naturalist knowledge, and tools and inspiration to continue to grow personally, and grow a powerful program at Camp. The course is hosted at Camp Kandalore, just North of Minden, ON along Highway 35. Room and Board is included. The weekend will focus is on four key areas:

  • Nature Based Mentoring techniques and creating a powerful learning environment
  • Wilderness Living Skills and Inspiring “Bush Craft” skill sets
  • Building Naturalist Knowledge and Awareness of Place
  • Nature Based Games, Activities, Songs, and other fun ways to engage with Nature

We find that programs like these are are far more successful when multiple people can go back to camp together having shared the same experience. It allows for support, promotes team teaching, and gives new ideas and skill sets a small community to flourish in, and then spread. To support this, we offer group incentive pricing.

To register for the staff training weekend please vist the P.I.N.E. Project web page at: http://www.pineproject.org
