Ontario Tracking Clubs & Gatherings

Eastern Woodland Clan – Tracking and Wilderness Skills Group

The Eastern Woodland Clan is a group based out of the Muskoka, Lake of Bays, & Perry Township area. We get together monthly to practice tracking and other wilderness skills. Membership is free

Next Gathering: March 27, 2010,  12pm @ the Wolf Den Bunkhouse (hwy 60, 8 min west of Algonquin Park)

This months focus will be on spring tracking substrates and finding tracks after the snow is gone.

Please bring: outdoor clothes, a tape measurer, journal,water bottle and plaster of paris if you wish to make some track casts.

We will meet at 12pm at the Wolf Den Hostel, hwy 60, 8 min east of Algonquin Park on the south side of the road.

Past Gatherings:

Sunday, Jan 24th from 12 – 5pm

Focus: Trailing, measurments and trail width

Meet at the Wolf Den Bunkhouse (hwy 60, 8 minutes West of Algonquin Park, near Oxtongue, ON)

No experience is nessesary. Be prepared to spend most of the day outdoors.

Sunday, June 15 – 1pm

Huntsville, ON

Theme – Tracking on the edge of Huntsville & what ever else comes up on our adventure.

Bring a knife, lunch, journal, and fire making stuff if you have it.

Sunday, March 29, 11 am – Late afternoon/early evening

Where: Wolf Den Hostel (Oxtongue, ON, hwy 60, 8 min before Algonquin park west gate, south side of road)

Plan: Friction fire making and container making. Hopefully a little tracking as well.

Bring a knife, lunch, journal, and fire making stuff if you have it.

Where: Novar (Hwy 11, 10min North of Huntsville)

Details: We will be heading out on foot into the local woods for an afternoon of tracking and winter skills such as shelter and fire building.

Afterwards we will come back to Novar for snacks and to talk about future gatherings.

Please Bring: Snowshoes measuring tape, water, journal, and snacks to share.

Sunday, Jan 18, 09′

We will be meeting at 11am and heading into the woods at 12 noon for an afternoon of tracking and concealment activities. We will likely start the meeting with a small fire and introduction.

Everyone is invited to stick around for a pot luck dinner (please bring a dish to share) around 5pm and some evening tracking activities and possible some music making.

Location: Wolf Den Bunkhouse, Hwy 60 (8 min west of Algonquin Park)
